...a time to give.
TO
ALL MEDICAL PRACTITIONERS IN NSW AND THE ACT
Dear Colleagues,
The Sydney Harbour Bridge has just celebrated its 75th birthday. The MBA of NSW was already 36 years old when Captain de Groot's sword upstaged Premier Lang's scissors. We have now been caring for doctors and their families for 111 years.
In the financial year to the 30th June 2006, the number of beneficiaries helped by counselling or by financial gifts remained fairly stable at 174, which included 75 new cases. Payments to beneficiaries were $275,308.00 but the total amount received through donations and bequests totalled $204,963.00, leaving a shortfall of about $70,000 to be covered by profits from our investments. Fortunately our investment portfolio has prospered in the current favourable market and our annual accounts at 30th June last showed a healthy surplus.

Most significantly, and unfortunately for our beneficiaries and the MBA of NSW, our social worker Mrs Mary Doughty AM is retiring this year after 43 years of faithful service.
Mary has been the "face" of the MBA of NSW. She commenced with us in May 1964 and over this time has been instrumental in the many improvements to our delivery of services to colleagues in need. In 1982 her services as social worker were extended to the Doctors' Health Advisory Service (DHAS) as well and in 1996 she was part of the Doctors' Mental Health and Wellbeing Committee followed by the Doctor's Mental Health Implementation Committee in 1997.
Her work with the MBA also involved the role of Executive Secretary but it has been her work as a social worker and her personal dealings with our beneficiaries that earned her her enviable reputation. Many letters of appreciation have been received from our beneficiaries. Her experience, wisdom and memory for details have ensured the growth and smooth running of the association for 43 years. She will be greatly missed by all.
We thank you for continuing to support the MBA's work by your donation. Please consider adding a codicil to your will in favour of the MBA.
See "Making a Bequest to the Medical Benevolent Association of NSW" and also our "Take Care" brochure at

We also have speakers available who could make a Power Point presentation to your organisation on request, outlining the work of the MBA.
Yours
sincerely,
David
