Who does MBANSW help?

MBANSW helps doctors in NSW and ACT in need and their families and others. The Association also helps the families of deceased doctors.

What help can I get from MBANSW?

You may be able to get some financial assistance, some counselling support or information about other services/organisations that may be able to help.

How do I ask for help for myself or a colleague?

You need to contact MBANSW Social Worker, Mrs Meredith McVey on 9987 0504 for a confidential discussion. Meredith will tell you how the association works and if MBANSW is not able to help, Meredith will give you some ideas about who is better suited to helping. Please click here for how to get help.

How does MBANSW decide who to help?

The Association is run by a Council of up to 20 registered medical practitioners. They are charged with the responsibility of deciding who to help. To make their decision they balance suitability of requests against available resources. The MBANSW Social Worker, Meredith McVey gathers information about each person’s financial and social situation and reports to council at their monthly meeting.

What can I do to help?

MBANSW relies on your generosity to be able to help your colleagues in need. You can make a tax deductible donation to allow the association to provide substantial financial assistance and Social Work support to as many as 150 medical practitioners and their families. You could also consider leaving MBANSW some money in your will, or arranging for donations to go to MBANSW in lieu of flowers. Please click here to contact us.

How long has MBANSW been around?

MBANSW has been assisting the doctors of NSW and ACT since 1896. The history of the association has been documented by Margery Scott Young, Dr David Pope OAM and Mrs Mary Doughty AM and is available on request.  A brief history is available here.

Is MBANSW a legitimate organisation?

MBANSW is incorporated in NSW. It is a registered charity with authority to raise funds in NSW and ACT. It has ATO income tax exemption and deductible gift recipient status. HLB Mann Judd are the Associations’ accountants and auditors, BT Financial group provides investment advice.

Can I make a bequest?

Who is on the council?

The Council is made up of up to 20 registered Medical Practitioners. They have the responsibility of deciding on financial gifts and direct the Association's affairs. They are the directors of MBANSW and are obliged to ensure that the Association complies with ASIC, State and Federal legislation.
