The Medical Benevolent Association of NSW (MBANSW)

For over 100 years the Medical Benevolent Association of NSW has been assisting with the social and financial difficulties of doctors in NSW and ACT and their families.

Greater awareness of the MBANSW’s work has resulted in a substantial increase in the number of doctors being referred for counselling, financial assistance and support.

Many doctors give generously to the MBANSW appeals but this only partly covers the expenditure required to support our beneficiaries. We must accumulate investment funds to supplement our appeals income and provide sufficient capital for future needs.

The Importance of making a Will

A will is a legal document that specifies the people and organisations you would wish to inherit your property, money and belongings when you die. It is a way of expressing your thanks. If you die without making a will your property will be distributed according to state laws.

There are many reasons for making a bequest to a charity. You can continue to support a cause you have always cared about or give more than you could previously.family

Bequests may take the form of:

  1. A cash sum
  2. A percentage of total estate
  3. The Residue of an estate
  4. Real estate
  5. A life insurance policy
  6. Property such as shares, works of art or jewellery etc.

You may wish to consult your solicitor, trustee company, or the Public Trustee regarding the wording of your will. If you have already made a will, you need to ensure it contains up to date information. Your circumstances may change and your wishes may change.

You may not need to make a new will. You could add a codicil. A codicil is a declaration that adds a new instruction to a will without altering the earlier general decisions expressed. This is the simplest way of adding the Medical Benevolent Association of NSW to your list of beneficiaries. The codicil should be dated, witnessed by two persons who are not beneficiaries, and attached to the will.
